# How do I password-protect my private podcast?

Every private subscriber already has their own RSS feed that only they know. For extra protection, you can add a password that subscribers need to listen on the web.

### Turn on password protection

* Go to the **Settings** tab for your private podcast
* Under **Password Protection**, enter a password of 5 to 16 characters
* Save your changes

Tell your subscribers the password yourself, since we don't send it to them. Their welcome and new episode emails will mention that a password is needed to listen in a browser.

To turn password protection off, clear the password and save.

### What the password protects

Subscribers need the password to open their landing page and to listen in their web browser. That includes copying their RSS feed from the landing page, so someone who gets hold of a subscriber's landing page link can't get the feed without the password.

Podcast apps don't ask for the password. Once a subscriber has added their RSS feed to an app, they can keep listening there.

### Signing in

When a subscriber enters the password, they stay signed in on that browser for 45 days. If you change the password, everyone is signed out and needs to enter the new one.
