Which podcast apps support Chapters?

How to add chapters into your episode

If you haven't added any chapters to your episodes yet, you can use our guide here: How do I add chapters?

Does Transistor support chapters?

Yes, Transistor will automatically detect any Chapters you have embedded into your audio file. You can also add Chapters to your audio file in Transistor when you upload it. You can also add Chapters into your Show Notes too.

How to make my chapters accessible on every podcast app?

The best way to make chapters accessible across most apps is to have them embedded into your audio file and also display them in your Show Notes. You can use our {{Chapters}} tag in your Show Notes section.

How will each podcast app show my chapters?

Not all podcast apps will support chapters in the same way. Some apps have a dedicated Chapter window that will show any timestamps that are embedded into the audio.

All podcast apps should show any Chapters you add into your Show Notes, some apps will make the timestamps clickable, others may not support that.

Also keep in mind that Chapter functionality will be different across web, desktop and mobile versions of the same app.

Spotify

In Spotify, chapters visible in the Show Notes section are clickable. This is on web, Desktop and Mobile.

Spotify will also show a Chapters segmented progress bar in the mobile app.

If you let Spotify auto-transcribe your episode they can also auto-generate Chapters from the transcription. Auto-generated Chapters will have a disclaimer on them.

Spotify will also let you manually add Chapters if you login and add them directly. However it's best to add your Chapters in Transistor, so that they appear in any app that supports them.

Why can't I see my Chapters on Spotify?

  • Check you have added Chapters in Transistor - In the Show Notes section and/or embedded into the audio file
  • Check your Chapters in the Spotify Mobile App for the best experience
  • If you have uploaded video episodes directly to Spotify, you won't see the chapters that you have added in Transistor.
