Why have basic private podcasts been renamed to unlisted?

Changes to Basic Private Podcasts

If you had a Basic Private Podcast (or a podcast that was hidden from Apple Podcasts) as of the 5th July 2022 we have made a change to your podcast settings.

“Basic Private” podcasts are now called “Unlisted” Podcasts. We are opting for this simpler set up to make a show unlisted and hidden from podcast directories and still compatible with the Google Podcasts app. Google Podcasts had phased out support for our previous style of basic private podcasts.

What's different?

This is how your basic private podcast will now look in your Settings tab under the Advanced Settings section:

Setting a show to "unlisted" will prevent it from being discoverable in podcast directories. We also obfuscate the feed URL to make it unguessable. Here's an example of what an unlisted feed URL will look like: feeds.transistor.fm/my-shows-title-u79f32242a1ec86b8

Do I need to change anything?

No, this change has taken place automatically. Any show that was using the old-style password-protected feed (with the username and password as part of the feed URL) has now been automatically redirected to the new style. Your subscribers won’t notice a thing.

If you have any questions or issues, please reach out to us at support@transistor.fm.
