Which podcast apps support transcripts?

Does Transistor support transcripts?

Yes, Transistor offers two ways for you to add a transcript to your RSS feed:

Upload your own transcript to your episode - Transcript Upload Guide.
Use Transistor's AI tool to create a transcript - AI Transcription Guide.

How to make my transcript accessible on every podcast app?

Once your episode has a transcript the easiest way to make sure your transcript is accessible in every podcast app is to include a link to it in your Show Notes. You can use our {{Transcript}} tag in your Show Notes section. That links directly to the transcript share page for your episode.

Which podcast apps will show my transcript?

Not all podcast apps will support transcripts added into your RSS feed. Some will show the transcript that you add into your RSS feed and some podcast apps will auto-generate their own transcripts for you. Some podcast apps do not support transcripts at all.

Here's how each podcast app treats transcripts:

Spotify - Spotify does not support transcripts from your RSS feed. They offer their own auto-generated transcripts for a select few shows. You can find out more about Spotify's own auto-generated transcripts.

Apple Podcasts - Apple Podcasts defaults to their own automatically generated transcripts. However you can change the setting to switch to the transcripts provided in your RSS feed. You can do that in Apple Podcasts Connect under the Transcripts section. You can read more about Apple Podcasts transcripts.

Apple Podcasts does not support TXT format transcripts. They only accept VTT and SRT formats.

YouTube - If you have episodes hosted directly on YouTube you can take a transcript created by Transistor and add it to your video in YouTube for use as closed captions / subtitles. We recommend you use the .SRT format file that we provide with our AI Transcripts.

You can read more about Adding a transcript / subtitles to a YouTube video. YouTube only accepts certain file formats and you can read about YouTube's accepted transcript formats.

Amazon Music - The Amazon Music app currently only shows auto-generated transcripts for a select handful of large shows. They do not pull in transcripts from your podcast's RSS feed. You can read more about how Amazon Music uses transcripts here: https://podnews.net/press-release/amazon-music-transcripts

Pocket Casts - Pocket Casts does not seem to support any form of podcast transcripts currently. However it does seem to be a regularly requested feature, so they may choose to add it in future. Some Android devices may have a compatible closed captioning feature that may work with audio played through Pocket Casts.

Podcast Addict - Podcast Addict supports the following transcript formats from your RSS feed: srt, x-subrip, json and HTML. They do not support .TXT format transcripts.

Metacast - Metacast is a "trancript-first" podcast player; transcripts are either generated by AI or provided by podcast creators.

Deezer - While Deezer does seem to have a lyrics feature for music they do not have a transcripts or closed captions feature for podcasts.

Player FM - Player FM does support transcripts from the RSS feed. When playing a podcast episode you should see a transcript icon to switch to the transcript page. However the formatting displayed in their app may not match the layout of your transcript in Transistor.
