How do storage limits work?
Your Transistor plan includes limits for downloads, private podcast subscribers, and storage. You can see how much of each you've used at any time from the Plan Features & Usage section of your account page.
Where to find your usage
- In your Transistor dashboard, go to Your Account
- Scroll down to the Plan Features & Usage section
- You'll see a usage circle for each limit on your plan, showing how much you've used so far
Usage applies across all of the podcasts you own, so if you have more than one show, their downloads, storage and subscribers are added together.
The Plan Features & Usage section:

What each usage metric means
- Downloads is the total number of downloads across all your podcasts for the current billing period. This resets each month, and you'll see the date range for your current period underneath. Click View history to see your downloads from previous months.
- Storage is the total size of all the audio and video files you've uploaded across your podcasts. Click View breakdown to see how your storage is being used.
- Private podcasts is the total number of unique subscribers across all of your private podcasts.
- Transcription shows how many minutes of AI transcription you have left. Click View history to see which episodes used your transcription minutes. If you need more, you can enable a Transcription Add-on from the Billing & Subscription section of the same page.
Why we've introduced storage limits
Transistor now supports video podcasts! Video files are much larger than audio files, often many times larger for the same length episode. To keep hosting fast and reliable for everyone, each plan now includes a storage allowance.
For most audio-only podcasts, this won't change anything. Even a large back catalog of audio episodes uses only a small fraction of the storage on any plan. If you're uploading video, it's worth keeping an eye on your Storage usage.

What happens if I go over a limit?
Don't worry, nothing breaks! Here's how it works:
- We don't auto-upgrade you. Your plan will never change without you choosing to change it.
- There are no penalty or overage fees. You won't be charged extra for going over.
- Your podcast keeps working. We continue serving your episodes to listeners even while your account needs an upgrade.
- We'll send you an email. At the end of the month, if you've gone over a limit, we'll email you to let you know it's time to upgrade.
How to upgrade your plan
- Go to Your Account
- In the Billing & Subscription section, click Change Plan
- Select the plan that fits your usage
- Confirm your new plan
Your new limits will apply right away.
